NANOPARTICLE SYNTHESIS

OVERVIEW
Larger Purpose:
My wife and I have chosen to do undergraduate research in the Chemistry department because it will give us experience in leading our own research project and prepare us for graduate school. It will also allow us to apply the things we have learned and the knowledge we have gained in our major.
Project Goal:
For our EDGE project we will be researching how to use microfluidic devices to make silver nanoparticles.
Outcomes:
By carrying out our project we hope to present what we have learned to students here at SUU and make them aware of research opportunities for undergraduates. We also hope that if our project goes well and we get good results we will be able to publish our research in a scientific journal.
Deliverables:
We will be keeping a lab notebook that will document our work, observations, etc. We will also take pictures and save any data analysis that we carry out. Lastly we will put together a presentation of our findings in the form of either a poster or a powerpoint.
Differentiation:
Undergraduate research greatly improves our chances of getting into graduate programs because it shows that we have experience. What is different about our undergraduate research is that we are the leaders of our project and not just extra hands helping out.
